₹8 Lakh Loan to Arrange the Flight

Sanjay’s brother Ajay Kumar, who works with the Haryana government, revealed that the family comes from a financially weak background. To arrange the costly air ambulance, they borrowed money from relatives and well-wishers.

The total cost of the medical evacuation reportedly came to around ₹8 lakh, a huge amount for the family. “We did everything possible to save him. We had no other option,” Ajay said, fighting back tears.

The air ambulance was arranged to fly Sanjay from Ranchi to Delhi on Monday evening.

Who Was On Board?

The ill-fated flight carried seven people, all of whom lost their lives in the crash. Those on board included:

  • Sanjay Kumar (the patient)
  • His wife Archana
  • A relative, Dhruv
  • Two pilots
  • Medical staff accompanying the patient

The aircraft was a Beechcraft C90, operated by Redbird Airways Pvt Ltd.

Crash Site and Rescue Challenges

The aircraft went down in a forested area near Bariatu Panchayat in Simaria, located in Chatra district of Jharkhand. The rugged terrain and dense forest made rescue operations extremely challenging.

Rescue teams, including local police and administrative officials, eventually reached the site and confirmed that all seven occupants had died in the crash.

A Tragedy Beyond Numbers

Beyond the technical investigation, the incident highlights the human cost of medical emergencies in India, where families often go to extreme lengths—financially and emotionally—to save loved ones.

For Sanjay Kumar’s family, the loss is twofold: the death of a loved one and the burden of debt taken in a last-ditch effort to save him. What began as a hopeful journey for advanced treatment ended in an unimaginable tragedy.
